185 concurrent players doesn’t sound like a lot until you realize it earned the game a Steam Featured Win spot. That number belongs to Keine’s Expanding Class!, a $4.79 hangman game from developer HornyMelon that landed a Steam Featured Win spot and a perfect 100% rating from 19 reviews.

One of those reviews, from a player with 5.5 hours logged, reads in full: “GAME OFD RTHE YEAR.” Another admits “I don’t know anything about Touhou. Help me.” Fair question.

Here’s the pitch: it’s hangman, starring Touhou character Keine Kamishirasawa, the human village’s teacher from Touhou 8. The more words you guess correctly, the more her bust size increases. This isn’t random — it’s rooted in a single joke from Touhou 8 about a similar transformation when Keine becomes a were-hakutaku during full moons. Someone played that game, encountered that one detail, and built an entire hangman fangame around it. That’s the Touhou fandom in a nutshell.

The Touhou Project fan ecosystem is one of the most prolific in all of gaming. Team Shanghai Alice’s shoot-em-up series has spawned thousands of fan-made games, and Steam’s new release charts regularly feature them. Keine’s Expanding Class! is the latest to break through, and it did it with a concept so absurdly specific that it could only come from genuine affection for the source material.

Contributor yukihind provided additional assets for the game. As one blogger noted, Keine’s Expanding Class! appears to have been “zero percent produced by image and text generators,” which “automatically puts it in the top half of all games on Steam now.” A separate safe-for-work version, Sukusuku Hakutaku’s Class!, exists for players who want the word puzzles without the fetish content visible in their Steam library.

It’s discounted at $4.79 until the launch promotion ends. Whether you’re a twenty-year Touhou veteran or someone who just really likes hangman, the reviews suggest it delivers exactly what it promises.
