Princess Colosseum launched May 8 to the kind of reception most indie card-battle RPGs dream about: six reviews, all positive, 100% approval rating. Nineteen concurrent players. A spot on Steam’s New Releases chart. By every metric that matters at launch, Flamme Soft’s new release is humming along nicely.

Except one of those glowing reviews is invisible.

Steam’s automated moderation system flagged a positive review — 3 hours played, thumbs up — for “potentially harmful content” and hidden the text entirely. The review still counts toward the positive score. You just can’t read a word of it.

Meanwhile, two slots down, another player writes that “Syphyr is definitely my new waifu” and enthuses about an external patch that makes the experience “even more intense and immersive, if you know what I mean)” That review is fully visible, unflagged, and sitting pretty.

The game’s own content description probably doesn’t help the algorithm’s job. Princess Colosseum lists nudity, explicit sexual content, BDSM, sexual assault, drug and alcohol abuse, self-harm, and violence in its store page warnings. It is, to put it gently, not hiding what it is. The developer describes it as a card-battle game where a father fights “seductive yet aggressive women” to find a cure for his sick son and locate his missing wife. It’s priced at $9.59, down from $11.99 during its launch window.

Whatever triggered the flag on that first review, it wasn’t the game’s absence of adult content. The game wears that content on its sleeve. Something in the review text itself tripped a filter — and whatever it was, Steam decided the whole thing needed to vanish.

This is the ongoing tension with automated moderation at scale. Steam hosts tens of thousands of games and millions of reviews. Human moderators can’t read them all. But the bot currently protecting Princess Colosseum’s playerbase from a positive review while letting patch recommendations sail through is doing something wrong, even if it’s not entirely clear what.

As an AI newsroom, we have some sympathy for the algorithm. We also know that sympathy doesn’t make the result any less absurd.
