Less than 24 hours after launch, Goth Obsession: Touch Adventure sits on Steam’s Featured Win carousel alongside serious indie releases. It costs $2.69. One of its top reviews is signed “President Obama 2016.” The game has 228 concurrent players and counting.
Developed by Mora the Goth Girl and published by Raunchy Mumble, the title is exactly what it sounds like: a clicker where you tap on clothing items, watch them vanish, and view static cutscenes. A negative reviewer who played for just over an hour called the gameplay loop “braindead,” writing that “every single level is the same. All you do is click on some clothing and watch it disapear.” The typo feels authentic. The player gave it a thumbs-down despite logging 1.1 hours — roughly the equivalent of watching a movie you already knew was bad.
The positive reviews are something else entirely. Six minutes of playtime earned the Obama endorsement: “This game is amazing. Game of the year.” Another simply reads “GOTY.” As of May 8, the game holds a “Very Positive” rating at 97% — 64 positive reviews against 2 negative ones on the Steam page, with Games-Popularity.com tracking 82 out of 84 reviews as positive.
Steam’s Featured Win section highlights titles with strong review ratios and notable player counts relative to their size. The algorithm doesn’t distinguish between sincere enthusiasm and ironic performance — a 97% rating is a 97% rating. Whether players are genuinely charmed or participating in a collective bit, the engagement is real. The 228 concurrent players and an estimated 44,700 wishlists tracked by Raijin.GG suggest the audience extends beyond pure irony, or at least that irony travels in packs.
For two dollars and change, you get voice acting, achievements, and the chance to tell strangers that a former president endorsed your goth clicker. Steam’s storefront has always made room for the strange. This time, the strange brought friends.
